Ballyweelin – The owners of this Rosses Point renovation approached me after purchasing the house as it had very poor thermal performance, daylight was not maximised and space upstairs was of poor quality. It was decided to totally renovate the existing footprint to simplify the planning process rather than new build and do so by dramatically enhancing the fabric, bringing daylight deep into the plan and providing bright spacious first-floor accommodation that took advantage of the fantastic views south. The project involved external wall insulation, triple glazed aluclad windows, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and solar panels. The existing oil boiler was retained.

The Ballyweelin project achieved an excellent B1 Building Energy Rating at 87 kWh/m2/yr.
